All the sites listed below are the ones I visit most frequently. While there may not be many links compared to other game sites, I can guarantee that each one of them is worth seeing! |
| Dice'n'
Duel The best game shop in the south-west (as far as I am concerned)
Friendly staff, great range of games – visit the site, visit the shop,
spend money!
rec.games.board: This is the best newsgroup available for board games. If you have a rules query, want a recommendation or simply want to get involved in an argument, then this is the site. Some of the threads can be tedious and childish, but a lot of good people subscribe to it and most of the information is first rate. The Gaming Dumpster An excellent site which acts as a repository for rules translations, variants and errata. The latter service is particularly useful. Whenever I buy a new game, I check here first for any rules problems. The Luding Database The premier German game site (with English translations) which keeps track of game reviews from a variety of commercial and amateur sources. Even if your German is non-existent, the reviews from German sources can still be useful as they often give numerical ratings to games reviewed. The Board Room This site is great fun. It is an internet video programme devoted to board games. New episodes come online every week. It will not necessarily be to everyone's taste and it is nearly always positive about the games under review, but still worth a visit. (Although, if your view of gamers is that they are all large men with bushy beards, perhaps it is wise to give this one a miss). Boardgamegeek.com A really valuable site which has collected many game reviews and session reports from all over the web and put them under one roof. It also has a news page and other useful sections. Billabong Boardgamers An Australian game club, and one of my favourite sites – an inspiration for this one. Good reviews and session reports which give you a feel for a game before you rush out and buy it. Westbank Gamers My other favourite game club site and a major influence in this site's development. It has a wide variety of resources. I particularly enjoy the comprehensive and well thought-out session reports. Board Gamers Anonymous A Belfast-based game group very similar to our own. A really well designed site with plenty of game info. If you are in the area, drop these people a line. Thatchmeet Another games group based in the southwest (Exeter). Thatchmeet has been established for some time now. I am planning to visit soon and pick up a few tips! Brett & Board A labour of love from Mik Svellov, which provides timely information on the board game scene in Germany. A good place to spot which games are on the way. The site is being revamped. Funagain Games A big US-based Internet game store. I have never bought games from Funagain, although I am sure it would be economic, particularly if bought in bulk, but it is also a useful site for game reviews. It has a loyal customer base which frequently rates games. Web Grognards The premier site for wargames on the web. It also holds a lot of information on some of the more strategic 'German' games. The site is regularly updated and always worth a browse. |
