Welcome to the Totnes Board Game Group. Based in the heart of South Devon, UK, we meet once a week to play board games, mainly of the 'German' variety. Our informal group is still in its infancy so I hope you will enjoy tracking our development through this site. If you are in the area and would like to join in, email me, I am sure we can find you some table space.

'German games? What is he talking about?' An explanation for the uninitiated: these are family board and card games which are relatively easy to learn but challenging to play. All the rage in Germany – where the family game market is huge – and in some other parts of Europe, these games are now enjoying a growing audience in Britain and the US. The designs are a significant step forward from the childhood staples of 20 years ago, such as Monopoly and Risk. Although some of the new breed contain elements of luck, there are rarely any dice involved and usually some unique and innovative mechanics. Above all, they are fun.

To get a taste of what we play, look around the site, read the reviews and the session reports and explore the links.
