I hope these reviews prove useful. I must, however, urge a note of caution. Many of the reviews are based on only a few runs, sometimes only one. I have noted in each review how many times the game has been played by the reviewer and the number of players involved. As such, many of the reviews constitute little more than an initial impression. With so many games to play, it is unlikely that many will get beyond this stage, with only the outstanding games (or the shortest and most trivial) getting past the played five times mark.

I know some will feel that it is unfair to judge a game on one session, when it is likely that many subtleties in tactics and strategy will be missed. Even worse, it is possible that the game will simply be played incorrectly due to some rule oversight.

While I have some sympathy with this position, I still think that early impressions are useful, as long as it is stressed in the review that it really is a first look rather then the final word. I cannot think of many games – if any – which I hated at first and then grew to love. And. let's face it, if a game does not make a favourable first impression then this in itself might constitute a design flaw. It is a competitive market out there. If you do not grab your audience when they give you a first run through then you will probably lose them for good.

A final note: I have used the male gender throughout the reviews, this is purely a style decision and is in no means intended as a gender subjective approach.
